The Xiaomi Mi 7 was rumored to launch at MWC 2018 next month, but that will not happen. We can now confirm that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will not become official at MWC thanks to our source within the company. Xiaomi’s high-level employee, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed that the company has no plans of making any major announcements at this year’s Mobile World Congress, so the Xiaomi Mi 7 is definitely out of the question, and so is basically any new Xiaomi-branded smartphone you were hoping for, like the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, for example.
Xiaomi’s news follows confirmation that came earlier regarding the HTC U12 and LG G7, neither of these devices will be announced at MWC, which probably means we’re looking at event-packed March or April, as chances are that all of those phones will be announced during separate events a month or two after MWC. HTC, LG and Xiaomi, or at least some of these companies, are probably planning to avoid Samsung and its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus announcements, which will occur during MWC. Samsung will announce both devices on February 25, but it won’t exactly be the only company to introduce flagships handsets, Sony had also confirmed its press conference for February 25, and Nokia may announce the Nokia 9 as well during the tradeshow, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. As far as Xiaomi is concerned, we do know that the company will attend MWC, as Mobile World Congress’ website confirmed recently, but it seems like Xiaomi’s MWC trip won’t be as eventful as some consumers expected.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 has been leaking out for quite some time now. Earlier today the phone’s price point leaked out, and it will, allegedly, be more expensive than the Mi 6. The Xiaomi Mi 7 will ship with wireless charging, that much has been confirmed. The device will be fueled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while it will, most probably, be made out of metal and glass, though a ceramic + metal variant is also a possibility. The phone will probably ship with at least 6GB of RAM, and a dual camera setup on the back. Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin will ship on top of Android, and some rumors even suggested that Xiaomi may introduce the Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus next to the regular model of the device, when the time comes.
